Lucknow, May 28: Medical apathy is one thing that India is still struggling with and incidences of kin not getting ambulances - post their relative's death - are on the rise. In the latest, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur was forced to carry the body of her nine-year-old son in her arms as the ambulance was not provided allegedly by district hospital.

According to the incident, the nine-year-old child Afroz died in his mother's arms, who brought her child for treatment. Soon after the child was discharged and the parents were getting ready to Lucknow, Afroz died at the hospital premises in Shahajahanpur. When the kin of the deceased asked for an ambulance to take the child’s body home, they were allegedly denied the facility.

Following the incident came to light, district magistrate Amrit Tripathi formed a probe panel. He said, as Hindustan Times quotes, "Prima facie, the hospital staff appeared to be at fault. We will write to the higher authorities for strict action against them. I am waiting for the report." Even state Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Preeti Verma has issued a notice to the health authorities.
