Lucknow, July 19: Two days after the mass murders took place in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district, Section 144, which prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in an area, was imposed in the area on Friday. On July 17, ten  persons were killed and over 24 were injured in clashes over a land dispute in Sonbhadra district. According to reports, the incident took place when a dispute arose over a piece of land between the Gujjar and Gond communities.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday visited Sonbhadra and met the family members of the victims who died in a clash over land dispute. "Just want to go and meet families of victims (Sonbhadra firing case), I even said will take only 4 people with me.Yet administration is not letting us go there. They should tell us why we are being stopped. The mass killings took place on Wednesday afternoon during a dispute over a piece of land between the Gujjars and the Gonds. During the tiff, both the groups opened fire and attacked each other with sickles. The quarrel continued for more than an hour, reports said.

On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested 24 people in connection with the mass murders. Reports inform that a case has been registered against 78 people in this connection, including 50 unidentified persons. According to reports, the police registered a case against Yagdutt, the village head, his brother and others under the SC/ST Act on the plea of a local named Lallu Singh. The police are conducting raids to nab all the accused.
