Lucknow, October 4: Irked by poor handwriting, Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on three doctors. In the three criminal cases that come up last week, the injury report of the victims issued by Unnao, Gonda and Sitapur district hospitals were not readable because of the unintelligible handwriting of the doctors.
The fined doctors, identified as Dr TP Jaiswal of Unnao, Dr Ashish Saxena and Dr PK Goel of Sitapur, were also summoned for their handwriting because the court considered it as an obstruction in their Judicial work. The Lucknow bench observed that medico-legal reports have the power to support an eyewitness' claim or to disapprove it to a great extent. It added that medico-legal report and postmortem examination reports are made to help law professional to help them solve the criminal cases. Duped by Doctors? “If such reports are only able to be read by medical practitioners, they shall not serve the purpose for which they are made,” added the bench. Previously in 2012, Director General Medical and Health, Uttar Pradesh has directed doctors to issue medico-legal reports in a readable format.
