Kanpur, Sep 5: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Uttar Pradesh allegedly attempted suicide at his official residence in Kanpur. Reports inform that the officer had been upset for quite some time and also some discord in the family has also been suspected. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the IPS officer, identified as Surendra Kumar Das, was found unconscious at home early on Wednesday.
The policemen assigned to him found reported the incident to the police. Soon after, Das was rushed to a city hospital where he is undergoing a treatment for poisoning. Police informed no suicide note had been found yet.
A doctor at the hospital said the officer appeared to have consumed a pesticide. Dr Rajesh Agarwal, the chief medical superintendent of Kanpur’s Regency Hospital was quoted in the report saying that his condition is very very critical.
Adding further, he said that 30-year-old police officer was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition at about 6 am and his pulse was very faint. Agarwal further added that he had a very low blood pressure and was immediately put on life support system and is being treated for suspected poisoning.
The report further informs that Das, 30, who is the superintendent of police of East Kanpur district, had joined the post less than a month back. Das had got his first posting in Kanpur that gave him independent charge of the district. Das had graduated in mechanical engineering and had joined the civil services about five years ago. He is a 2014 batch IPS officer. After the police initiated a probe into the matter, the staff at his camp office informed that Das had been upset and there was some problem in the family.
