Lucknow, July 20: A man, his parents and brother were recently sentenced to 10 years in jail by a court for allegedly burning a pregnant woman in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri. The deceased woman was reportedly burnt alive by her husband and his family members over dowry demands. Besides sentencing the accused, Chetna Chauhan, judge of additional district, also imposed a fine of INR 10,000 on each of them.

The court passed the order on Thursday, July 18. The deceased woman was identified as Ayesha Bano, reports TOI. Officials said that Mustakeem married off his daughter to Mohammad Baris, a resident of Barnahal, on October 20, 2013. The complaint also stated that Ayesha was forced out of her house when she was pregnant. Tired of the continuous harassment, Bano lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws. Later, the in-laws reached a compromise and allowed Ayesha to come back home. However, two months later, Ayesha was burnt to death by her in-laws on February 17, 2016.

The next day, Ayesha's father approached the police and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested Ayesha's husband, father-in-law Liyakat Ali, mother-in-law Shahzadi Begum, and brother-in-law Kurban Ali. Additionally, Ayesha's autopsy report and the doctor's statement played crucial roles in convicting the accused. After the incident, the police also filed a detailed chargesheet against all accused.
