Moradabad, June 30: In a dreadful incident of honour killing in Uttar Pradesh, a father in Muzaffarnagar killed his 19-year-old daughter for being in a relationship with their 24-year-old neighbour.

The case was reported from Tevra village in Moradabad, falling under the Kakrauli police range. The father, identified as Maqsood, was arrested on Friday after he admitted to his crime.

The deceased girl has heeb identified as Sakira. The police said she was murdered nearly a month ago and buried in her house. The half-decomposed body has been recovered by the investigators.

As per the details of the case which emerged so far, Sakira was in love with her neighbour Munasib, who frequented her house. After the former's family came to know about the affair, they barred Munasib from entering their residence, and also restricted the outdoor movement of their daughter.

In the past month, however, Sakira managed to escape the house to meet Munasib on the outskirts of the village. She was apprehended by her father who brought her back to the house and killer her in rage. The death was caused due to strangulation, said the investigating team led by SP (rural) Ajay Sahdev.

Reports citing police sources said Maqsood was opposed to his daughter's relationship with Munasib due to a tradition maintained by the khap panchayat which prevents marriages within the same village.
