Kanpur, August 13: In another shocking incident, a hearing and speech impaired minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at her school in Rail Bazar police station area of Kanpur. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the girl is a student of a special school for deaf and mute children run by a non-government organisation (NGO). The girl’s mother informed the police when the girl refused to go to the school on Saturday.

The girl’s mother alleged that the school authorities did not help her in identifying the accused. She told Hindustan Times, “Through actions, she informed us that she had been sexually assaulted at her school.” However, as per the police, it is not yet clear whether the girl was sexually assaulted at school or at some other place as the victim is unable to speak.

According to the report, the girl will be taken to school today to identify the accused. She has already been sent for the medical examination. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and have started investigating the matter.

Earlier in the month, 24 girls have been rescued from an illegally-run shelter in Deoria, following allegations of mistreatment and sexual abuse of inmates. The Uttar Pradesh government have ordered a probe into the incident. Supervisor of the shelter home Girija Tripathi, her husband Mohan Tripathi and superintendent Kanchalata were arrested, while the District Magistrate Sujit Kumar was transferred for laxity.
