Lucknow, October 17: Although many mocked the Uttar Pradesh policeman, who shouted thain thain when his pistol got jammed during an encounter, the state police department is going to reward the cop for his 'act of bravery'. The Uttar Pradesh police sent SI Manoj Kumar's name for a commendation disc and certificate from the director general of police.
A video has gone viral in which Manoj Kumar was seen mimicking gunshot sound to scare criminals after his pistol jams at the eleventh hour during the encounter. He was also heard shouting maaro maaro and ghero in the viral video clip. While many trolled Kumar, the state police hailed the incident as an 'act of bravery' and decided to reward him.
"SI Manoj Kumar, was hailed as a hero.... In a police engagement, the SI didn’t quit... after his pistol choked. He started shouting encouraging words for his colleagues," Sambhal SP Yamuna Prasad was quoted as saying about the encounter that took place on October 12. “Words like maaro and ghero are said to create mental pressure on criminals," the SP added.

During the course of the encounter, one police personnel sustained injuries, while a criminal was also nabbed after being shot. The said criminal was wanted in a number of robbery cases and was carrying an award of Rs 25 thousand on his head.
