Uttar Pradesh: BJP Minority Wing Leader Thrashed in Amroha For Explaining 'Benefits of CAA and NRC'
Syed Murtaza Agha Qasmi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) local leader, was beaten by locals for spreading awareness of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh Amroha district. Following the attack, Qasmi had to flee from the stop to save himself.
Amroha, December 29: Syed Murtaza Agha Qasmi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) local leader, was beaten by locals for spreading awareness of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. Following the attack, Qasmi had to flee from the spot to save himself. According to reports, Qazmi, the district general secretary of BJP's minority wing, was allegedly heckled and then beaten at Lakada Mohalla in Amroha. Following the attack, Qazmi has registered a police complaint.
"I went to a shop at Lakada Mohalla of Amroha on Friday and was trying to spread awareness among Muslims about CAA and NRC. During the session, one Raza Ali suddenly attacked me. He tried to strangle me and I somehow managed to escape. I have filed an FIR against him," the BJP leader told reporters.
Massive protests have rocked the country ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by Parliament. The law seeks to grant Indian nationality to six communities except Muslims from three Islamic countries who entered India before 2015 and faced religious persecution.
