Uttar Pradesh: 26 Dead, 5 Injured Due to Dust Storm, Lightning and Rain
A severe dust storm, lightning and rain in various parts of north Indian state Uttar Pradesh claimed lives of nearly 26 and left 57 people injured as houses and walls collapsed and trees were uprooted, prompting state authorities to launch relief operations on Friday.
Mainpuri, June 7: A severe dust storm, lightning and rain in various parts of north Indian state Uttar Pradesh claimed lives of nearly 26 and left 57 people injured as houses and walls collapsed and trees were uprooted, prompting state authorities to launch relief operations on Friday. Mainpuri district was the worst hit as six people died in separate incidents of lightning and wall collapse on Thursday night.
According to the police, forty-one were left injured in the district and vehicular movement was also blocked in some areas due to uprooted trees which obstructed the road. Most of the injuries occurred when people were sleeping in their mud houses which were impacted by thunderstorm followed by rain leading to wall collapse. "While six people died in Mainpuri, three each died in Etah and Kasganj, two each in Farrukhabad and Barabanki, and one each in Moradabad, Badaun, Pilibhit, Mathura, Kannauj, Sambhal, Ghaziabad, Amroha, Badaun and Mahoba in incidents related to dust storm and lightning," data released by the state relief commissioner said.
More than thirty cattle died and 16 houses were also razed due to the natural occurrence. As electricity poles broke down, massive power cuts were also reported from various parts of the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to take all necessary measures. Financial assistance of Rs four lakh has been announced by the CM for the families of the deceased. The authorities have been asked to monitor the situation.
