Uttar Pradesh: 16-year-Old Becomes Pregnant After Getting Raped by Neighbour, Accused Booked Under POCSO Act

In another shocking incident of sexual assault against women, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Uttar Pradesh’s Sahibabad.

Sahibabad, September 15: In another shocking incident of sexual assault against women, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Uttar Pradesh’s Sahibabad. The incident came to light when the family of the victim approached the police.  According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the girl is presently five months’ pregnant. The family has filed an FIR against the accused and three others at the Sahibabad police station. The family came to know of the incident after the girl fell ill and was taken to a doctor.

According to the report, An FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections for rape, criminal conspiracy. The accused were also charged under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. Inspector Ran Singh, officiating SHO of the Sahibabad police station told Hindustan Times, “The family approached us and said the girl was five months’ pregnant. They alleged that she was raped by a neighbour, who is aged 20.” Mother of the accused has also been named in the FIR. Pregnancy was confirmed in the medical examination. The family alleged that the accused had lured the girl to his house where the alleged incident took place.

In the complaint, the victim’s mother also alleged that two men helped the accused in committing the crime. According to the report, the FIR was lodged on September 13, and the accused’s family arrived at the police station expressed their wish to marry the girl to the accused. The police have arrested the main accused.  The statement of the girl will be recorded in front of a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
