Agra, July 4: In an unfortunate incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 13-year-old boy was run over by a school bus on Tuesday. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, Aditya, the class 6th student of Pooran Chand Ramesh Chand Saraswati Vidya Mandir was crushed under the wheels of the bus after he slipped through the damaged floor of the vehicle. He was boarding off the bus on his way home when this unfortunate incident occurred in Kheragarh town of Agra.
“The child was run over by the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination,” reported Hindustan Times quoting Narendra Sharma, in-charge of Kheragarh police station as saying. The boy’s family has not lodged a complaint yet. The police will register a case once the complaint is filed. The police have seized the vehicle. The driver of the bus has also been taken into the custody.
According to the report, Aditya’s elder sister Anushka was also on the bus when the incident happened. Anushka is class 11 student. The issue of the damaged bus had already been brought into the notice of the authorities. Anushka alleged that the floor of the bus was in a poor condition. Angry residents of the area blocked the road in Kheragarh with Aditya’s body. The bus had Himachal Pradesh’s registration number.
This incident exposed authorities’ claims of regularly inspecting school buses. In April this year, the transport department inspected nearly 500 school buses owned by various schools in Greater Noida. The inspection was carried out to check any non-compliance with Supreme Court guidelines.
