UP Weather Forecast: Heavy Rainfall, Flood Alert Issued Till September 6;12 Dead, Over 300 Houses Damaged

Lucknow, Sep 4: Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh since the last 10 days, triggering flood-like situations, waterlogging and traffic snarls in the state. In the wake of a heavy downpour, the regional MeT department has issued flood alerts in Uttar Pradesh till September 6. In the last 12 hours, the heavy rainfall has damaged over 300 houses and about 12 people have been killed in rain-related incidences across the state.

"Flood alerts issued across the state till Sept 06. In last 24 hours, total 12 deaths reported in UP, over 300 houses damaged. In 100 percent cases, relief compensation has been provided to the affected people", Sanjay Kumar, State Relief Commissioner was quoted by ANI. The state’s western and central parts are expected to receive more rainfall over the next 48 hours. Reports informed that Shahjahanpur was the worst affected, with lightning strikes killing six people and injuring seven in 24 hours.

Incessant rains have been battering most parts of the state since the past 10 days. Rivers in many districts are in spate and evacuation has been ordered in vast parts of low-lying areas in eastern parts of the state, reports informed.

According to a report by PTI, 12 more people were killed and fourteen injured in overnight rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, a senior official said on Tuesday. 18 animals died in the state and as many as 461 houses/huts were also damaged. As per reports, three people were killed each in Gonda and Kushinagar districts, two in Mirzapur and one person died each in Bahraich, Sitapur, Meerut and Etah, Relief Commissioner Sanjay Kumar told reporters.
