Kheri, June 9: A 55-year-old farmer and small grocery shop owner in Uttar Pradesh’s Kheri, Harnaam Verma, was brutally beaten to death by two drunk men after he refused to give them snacks for free in Chandaiyapur village under the Padua police station limits. The accused not only thrashed him but also tied him to bike and dragged him for 300 metres. The incident occurred on Friday night, and Verma's body was found the next day in a neighboring village.
TOI reported that Harnaam Verma was at his shop when the assailants, Amar Singh and Nand Kishore, arrived and demanded snacks without payment. The situation quickly escalated when Nand Kishore attacked Harnaam with sticks, soon joined by Amar Singh. The two men then tied Harnaam to their bike and dragged him for 300 meters out of the village. Relatives of Harnaam, upon learning about the incident, rushed to the scene but were unable to find him. They alerted the police and filed a complaint. A few hours later, Harnaam's body was discovered in Kandoha village.
CO Praveen Kumar stated, "An FIR was registered based on the complaint of the victim's son. The accused are charged under IPC sections 302 (murder), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation). There were visible injuries on the victim's body, and it was sent for autopsy. Multiple police teams were deployed to capture the accused, who had fled the scene."
On Saturday afternoon, police successfully arrested Nand Kishore near Karikot temple. "We are sending him to jail," CO Kumar confirmed, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend Amar Singh, who remains at large.
