Lucknow, January 1: In another startling case of sexual assault, a woman in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur was allegedly gang-raped. The incident was reported on Wednesday, with the victim alleging that she was abducted two days ago and raped by three men. The case allegedly took place in Laharpur area of Sitapur, with the police registering a complaint into the matter. The preliminary probe has been launched, said a top official privy to the case, adding that the medical report of the victim would provide further leads into the matter. Base on her allegation, he added, the police has launched a search operation to nab the three accused.

Further investigation underway," said Madhuban Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (North). The officer assured that strict action would be taken if the police investigation finds that the three accused had gangraped the woman.
The rape case comes days after the nation was jolted by the horrific gangrape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad. The police had held four accused for the gruesome crime. All of them were killed in an alleged encounter, with the police claiming that they had attempted to flee while re-creating the crime scene.
