Basti, July 27: Five members of Uttar Pradesh police SWAT team have been transferred on Saturday by UP Director general of police (DGP) OP Singh after they flaunted their guns in a video shared on one of the officials Facebook profile. An inquiry has been ordered into the matter. The incident will be investigated by the city circle officer. The clip, uploaded by a police inspector who heads special operations group in Basti, shows his team walking in a field while showing off their guns. The video was recorded in a slow-motion with Haryanvi song played in the background. Reportedly, the clip was shot in Tiktok and became viral on social media. Reacting to clip, UP police tweeted, "Regarding a viral video of SWAT team of Basti Police, DGP UP OP Singh has directed SP Basti to transfer entire SWAT team to police lines and get the matter enquired by CO city. We do not sanction unprofessional display of weapons and grotesque caricaturing of Police."

Over 100 people have been killed in the encounters by the Uttar Pradesh police since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Yogi Adityanath came to power in 2017. The ruling state government had come under severe criticism by BSP, SP and Congress. However, Adityanath and UP Police chief defended the encounters.
