In a shocking incident, entire Sikandara police station in Agra was booked for custodial death, after a 32-year-old man died in the police custody after he was allegedly beaten in front of his 55-year-old mother.

Agra, November 24: In a shocking incident, entire Sikandara police station in Agra was booked for custodial death, after a 32-year-old man died in the police custody as he was allegedly beaten in front of his 55-year-old mother. Senior police officials taking cognisance of the incident, suspended an inspector and two sub-inspectors were also suspended. Kumar, used to work as help at a neighbour Anshul’s chemical shop. According to a report published in The Times of India, Kumar was picked from up by police from his rented house in Narendra Enclave on Gailana Road on the evening of November 21 on the complaint of Anshul, who alleged that the victim had stolen jewellery worth Rs seven lakh from his house. Kumar’s mother Reenu alleged that the police beat her son mercilessly in front of her.

The victim’s father Om Prakash Gupta, had passed away in 2001. He was a bank manager at State bank of India. Reenu's two daughters are married and live in Vrindavan and Delhi. The mother of the 32-year-old victim also alleged that on November 22, the police took her from her rented house to the police station and tortured her son. The cops dropped her back at 6 pm in the evening, but kept her son in the lockup. In the post-mortem report, it was revealed that his death was caused to myocardial infarction (heart attack) and minor injuries on shoulder arms and legs. In the initial investigation, it was found that Kumar was also beaten by his neighbours Anshul and Vivek before handling him to the police. An FIR has been registered against Sikandra police station, Anshul and Vivek.
