Lucknow, October 14: The Uttar Pradesh police in Hamirpur district, for the purpose of maintaining law and order in the state during the ongoing Navratri festival, reportedly marked out 31 names which could prove to be an "obstacle" and create ruckus during the festival. But it has now turned out that three out of the 31 names submitted by the police to the District Magistrate have long been dead. The local reports have been equating police's action with that of including names of "ghosts" in the list.

According to media reports, the local or City Kotwal (police officer) sent the list on October 4 with 31 names in it to the Deputy District Magistrate Sadar and demanded that they be detained as a precautionary measure. The Deputy District Magistrate Sadar Court then ordered on the basis of report that those named should be produced in the court on October 10 under section 113 of the CrPC Act . It  was only after the police went out to look for all the names that it came to light that three of the names in the list are longer alive. The news upset the officers, as it has been reported by various media houses and the police department has launched an inquiry into the case.

Only on Saturday, news emerged of a video that has been going viral on social media showing a policeman involved in an encounter trying to mimic the sound of gunshots after the cop's revolver reportedly stopped working as the cartridges got stuck. The action by the policeman has been getting mocked on social media as the video becomes viral. Police Pistol Gets Jammed During Encounter, UP Cops Shout 'Thain Thain' to Threaten Criminals! The Uttar Pradesh police is making news for all the wrong news recently. It has hardly been a month since the infamous Vivek Tiwari killing case in which the Apple executive Vivek Tiwari was allegedly shot dead by policeman Prashant Chaudhary. The incident not only invited criticism but also raised questions on the approach of the police force. A special investigative team (SIT) was formed to look into the case after the victim's family demanded an independent probe.
