Meerut, Aug 27: The Uttar Pradesh police has arrested two men from Sardhana for ridiculing Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Sangeet Som on WhatsApp. The arrests were made following a complaint by BJP's Sardhana unit chief Vinod Jain.

Dilip Singh, in-charge of Sardhana police station, said arrested duo have been identified as Aijaz Khatri, a compounder and Mohammed Anas, a jobless youth. Both have been booked under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, he added.

The WhatsApp post, forwarded in a traders' group which also has some BJP leaders, took a potshot at Som saying the legislator has not been seen in Sardhana ever since the horrific gangrape of a 14-year-old minor by six men.

The objectionable post read as follows: "Som is missing since August 15. Please come back. No one will say anything to you in connection with the Sardhana incident. You do not worry about the issue because the victim was not your daughter. Your only concern is to get votes. No one will measure your chest."

Notably, the legislator had got in touch with the family of the victim, offering all possible help. The six accused involved in the gangrape have also been arrested. Reports, however, claim that Som met the victim's kin only after local NGOs raised the issue.

The BJP MLA was not in Sardhana when the arrests were made, as he is currently attending the legislative assembly session underway in Lucknow.
