Lucknow, July 29: A 17-year-old boy, Khalid in Chandauli district, was allegedly set ablaze by some people when he refused to chant 'Jai Sri Ram'. However, police have found the statement given by the victim as well as his family to be contradictory. An eye witness has claimed that he saw Khalid setting himself on fire. According to an ANI tweet, SP of Chandauli district said, "He's admitted in a hospital with 45% burns. He had given different statements to different people, so it seemed suspicious. Police have monitored the CCTV footage of the places Khalid mentioned and found that he had not been at any of those places.

There have been several instances of mob violence in the name of Jai Shri Ram in the country. Last month, a taxi driver belonging to the Muslim community was allegedly attacked and forced to chant "Jai Shree Ram".

The shocking death of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand shook everyone.  Ansari who was apprehended by a mob in Kharsawan district on June 18 on suspicion of theft, was tied to a pole and thrashed with sticks by a mob. He was seen in a video being forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram" and "Jai Hanuman". He had succumbed to injuries on June 22.
