UP Doctor Falls Off Mumbai Local Train While Fighting Mobile Snatcher, Loses Leg

A 54-year-old doctor from Uttar Pradesh lost his leg after falling off a local train in Mumbai while fighting a mobile snatcher.

Mumbai, April 2: A 54-year-old doctor from Uttar Pradesh lost his leg after falling off a local train in Mumbai while fighting a mobile snatcher. The incident took place on March 29 when Akhtar Ali Khan, a homoeopath from Jaunpur, was travelling from Mankhurd to Sandhurst Road on a local train on Harbour line. A case has been registered by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and a manhunt was launched by to nab two robbers.

According to Khan, he took a train from Mankhurd for Sandhurst Road after Friday prayers. During the journey, he got a call but was unable to hear the caller's voice due to low network. "At Reay Road station, I moved close to the door to return the call. Just before the train began to move, two young men got in. They snatched my phone," Khan told a leading daily. Meanwhile, the train began to move. The robber then pushed Khan to get rid of him. "I lost my balance. And as I rolled off to the end of the platform and landed on the tracks, the train ran over my left leg," he was quoted as saying. Khan's misery didn't end there. While he was bleeding profusely, Khan said, nobody came forward to help him. Finally, the police arrived and rushed him to JJ Hospital. Doctors performed a surgery on Sunday where Khan’s leg was amputated below the knee. GRP officials are checking CCTV footages of the station to nab the culprits.
