Lucknow, July 29: A 20-year-old Unnao woman, who had levelled rape charges against BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in 2017, is reported to be critically injured in a road mishap in Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred in Rae Bareli, where a truck hit the vehicle in which the rape survivor, her paternal and maternal aunts and lawyer Mahendra Singh were travelling.

While the condition of the woman and the lawyer is said to be "critical", her two and aunt died on the spot in the fierce accident. Earlier some media reports stated that the rape survivor's mother and aunt were killed in the accident. However, according to latest reports, her two aunts were killed in the road mishap. "Victim, her mother, her aunt, and her lawyer were injured in the accident. Victim's mother and aunt succumbed to injuries; the victim and her lawyer are in critical condition," Advocate Vimal Kumar Yadav, junior aide of the injured lawyer was quoted in reports.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that it could be a conspiracy to kill her and demanded a CBI probe into the Sunday incident. Local media has reported that the woman, along with the deceased, was going to Rae Bareli to meet their uncle Mahesh Singh, who is lodged in jail. Notably, Sengar, the legislator from Bangermau in Uttar Pradesh, is currently in prison based on the probe findings so far. His brother Atul Sengar is also behind the bars,

The Unnao woman, whose aunt has expired in the road accident today, suffered the loss of her father last year as he died in police custody last year. As per the allegations, his father was assaulted by Atul and his aides before being taken into police custody. He succumbed to the injuries days later inside the prison.

The case of rape, followed by assault on the victim's father, sparked protests in Uttar Pradesh which had forced the state government to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
