Lucknow, December 7: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday expressed grief over death of Unnao rape victim and ordered a fast-track court trial. "All accused have been arrested and the case will be taken to fast-track court for trail", Adityanath was quoted by ANI. The fast track court serves speedy trial of cases of sexual assault on women and children. The Unnao rape survivor breathed her last at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital on Friday following a cardiac arrest.
The 23-year-old girl, who was set ablaze while on her way to a court hearing on Thursday morning, died at 11:40 pm on Friday. She received 90 per cent burns and was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to Safdarjung Hospital on Thursday where she was undergoing treatment. Dr Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday said that the post mortem of Unnao rape victim will take place at 10 am under the leadership of Dr MK Wahi, Head of Department of Forensic unit. Keshav Prasad Maurya, UP Deputy Chief Minister termed the death of Unnao rape survivor as an unfortunate incident and assured strict action against the culprits. "This is an extremely unfortunate incident, I can't even imagine what the family of the victim is going through. I assure them that we will not spare the culprits, will get them punished at the earliest", Maurya said.
Earlier in the day, the brother of Unnao rape victim, demanded strict action against the five accused. "I have nothing really to say. My sister is no more with us, my only demand is that the five accused deserve death and nothing less", he was quoted by ANI. According to the police, five accused allegedly threw kerosene on the woman and set her on fire when she was on her way to a local court for the hearing of a rape case she had filed. Notably, the woman had filed a rape case in March this year, which is under trial at a local court in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao.
