Lucknow, July 29: A day after the road accident involving Unnao rape survivor and her family, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh on Monday assured a free and fair probe in the road mishap. Speaking to media, Singh said that initial probe suggested that it was purely an accident due to an over-speeding truck. Immediately after the accident police arrested the truck driver. Unnao Rape Case: BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar Taken to Court by CBI After Medical Check-Up Along with Victim.

Singh further added that the government is ready to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the family of the rape survivor demands an inquiry by the premier probe agency. The DGP also claimed that there was no negligence in the security of the victim. He added, “Due to lack of space in her vehicle, she requested the security personnel deputed for security not to accompany her to Raebareli yesterday.” Unnao Rape Case: CBI Files Charge-Sheet Against Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

OP Singh's Statement:

The 20-year-old Unnao woman, who had levelled rape charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Sengar in 2017, is reported to be critically injured in the road mishap. The accident occurred in Raebareli, after a truck hit the vehicle in which the rape survivor, her paternal and maternal aunts and lawyer Mahendra Singh were travelling.

Two aunts of the rape survivor died on the spot, while the condition of her lawyer is said to be critical. Her mother blamed the BJP lawmaker for the accident. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that it could be a conspiracy to kill her and demanded a CBI probe into the Sunday incident.

The Unnao rape case came to light on April 8 last year, when the victim attempted to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow. She had alleged that police were not taking action against the accused.
