New Delhi, August 14: Delhi police have reportedly obtained fresh CCTV footage from over nine locations on Tuesday, which show a man wiping his face using a handkerchief after allegedly attacking Umar Khalid, JNU student and research scholar.
A shooting attempt was made on the life of student leader Umar Khalid, who has been in controversy from the past two years for allegedly raising anti- India slogans in an event that was held in Jawahar Lal Nehru university. The shooting attempt on Khalid took place on Monday in the high-security area of central Delhi.
Madhur Verma, DCP, New Delhi, was quoted saying by The Hindu that CCTV footage from more than nine locations have been obtained by the police along the route believed to have been taken by the suspect, after attacking Umar. According to the police, the suspect used the route to escape after the incident.
The man was first seen walking on Rafi Marg, and then moved towards Gurudwara Bangla Sahib located on Ashoka road. The police have reportedly said that the footages are very clear.
The police has also asked Umar Khalid to come to the police station for investigation purpose. According to the report, three eyewitnesses, including a security guard at Delhi's Constitution Club, have given their statements to the police.
The case has been transferred to the special cell by the Commissioner of Delhi for detailed investigation. On June 8, Omar Khalid had filed a case with the Delhi Police, and mentioned in the case that a gangster by the name of Ravi Pujari had threatened to kill him.
