New Delhi, December 24: A massive fire has broken out in University Grant Commission (UGC) building in Delhi on Monday morning.

According to media reports, fire broke out at the second floor of the building due to s short circuit. Six fire tenders are rushed to the spot. No casualty has been reported yet. Further details are still awaited. Mumbai Fire: Major Blaze in Malad, Fire Tenders Rushed to the Spot.

This is the second incident of fire in the day. Earlier, a fire broke out in shanties near Malwani area of Mumbai’s Malad in the morning. Five fire tender were rushed to the spot and no casualty was reported.

The University Grants Commission of India (UGC India) is a statutory body set up by the Indian Union government in accordance to the UGC Act 1956[1] under Ministry of Human Resource Development, and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognised universities and colleges. Its headquarters is in New Delhi, and has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore.
