Kolkata, October 3: An Uber driver was booked for attempt to molest and murder after a Kolkata-based singer filed a complaint against him for rape threat. The woman alleged the Uber driver threatened her with rape when she objected to his excessive use of the mobile phone during driving. The accused has been arrested even as the Uber issued an apology.

The woman had booked the ride with her elderly mother. During the travel, she noticed the driver was talking on mobile phone while driving. She asked him to get off his phone and drive safely. Irked by the woman's objection, the driver hurled abuses at her and went on threaten with rape. When the cab stopped at a traffic signal, the woman sought help from a traffic sergeant and subsequently, filed a complaint against the Uber cab driver. The police wasted no time and arrested the driver on charges of attempt to molest and murder, reported a leading news channel. “Safety is a priority at Uber and what’s been described has no place on the app. Upon learning of the incident, we immediately removed the driver's access to the app. We will support law enforcement authorities in their investigation," an Uber spokesperson said.
