Raipur, July 17: In a horrific incident reported from Chhattisgarh, a two-month-old infant in Raipur died as the door of the ambulance ferrying him to the hospital got jammed. The boy succumbed to death due to suffocation.
The deceased child's father, while speaking to reporters, said he wanted to break the ambulance window but was stopped from doing so. The personnel of Sanjeevani Express - the free ambulance service initiated by the government - stopped the parents from causing "damage to state property". The child was expected to undergo cardiac surgery at the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital. The parents were recommended by doctors at AIIMS in Delhi to treat their child at the medical facility. They had arrived in Raipur from the national capital on Monday.
The bereaved father, identified as Ambika Kumar, has demanded action against the company which runs the Sanjeevani Ambulance service. The company, however, has denied the allegations claiming the child had already died before the ambulance reached the hospital.
Kumar has approached the police seeking penal action. Contrary to the company's claim, the father said a mechanic was called on the site who tried to open the door for nearly two hours.
