Twitter’s Public Policy VP Colin Crowell To Appear Before Parliamentary Panel on February 25

New Delhi, February 22: Days after, a parliamentary panel on Information Technology summoned Twitter India to appear before it on February 25, the microblogging site on Friday confirmed that its Global Vice President of Public Policy Colin Crowell will appear before the panel. In a statement given to IANS, the micro-blogging platform said that for Crowell, the 2019 Lok Sabha election is a key priority for Twitter. "We thank the Parliamentary Committee for its invitation to hear Twitter's views on 'safeguarding citizen rights on social/online news media platforms'," said a Twitter spokesperson. "These are issues for all internet services globally. Colin Crowell, Global Vice President of Public Policy for Twitter, will meet with the Committee on Monday," the spokesperson added. The panel headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur summoned Twitter India along with representatives from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology over the issue of ‘Safeguarding citizens’ rights on social media/online news platforms'
The panel summoned the Twitter India after receiving complaints against the microblogging site for alleged bias against "nationalist" accounts. Initially, the 31-member parliamentary panel asked Twitter officials and representatives of the ministry to appear before it on February 11. However, saddened with the reply of Twitter, the panel issued the 15-day deadline and asked Jack Dorsey to attend the meeting with the committee.
