New Delhi, November 12: Twitter chief executive officer and co-founder Jack Dorsey met Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday at the latter's office in the national capital. During the brief meeting, they held discussions over the menace of fake news, and the steps which microblogging site has enacted to tackle the misinformation campaign.
Following their meet, Rahul Gandhi posted a statement on social media, claiming that Dorsey and his team are adopting measures to keep conversation on Twitter "healthy". The Gandhi scion further contended that the social media site has grown into the "most dominant conversations platform" across the world. Political parties in India, similar to the trend seen in other democracies around the globe, have often accused each of other peddling fake news to defame their rivals. The outfits are also charged of assigning social media trolls to hack genuine political conversations, and instead feed users with misinformation, propaganda and fake news.

Earlier this year, the rumours of a "child-lifting gang" being in operation led to the lynching of over 30 people in different parts of the nation. The rumours were being spread through messaging application WhatsApp.
Subsequently, the Ministry of IT & Electronics issued a strongly-worded letter to the US-based firm, warning it to adopt measures which can control spread or rumours of face stringent action.
WhatsApp had subsequently adopted a new feature for India users, where one-time message forward is restricted to five users, and the messages are accompanied with a tag which says "forwarded".
