Agartala, September 18: A 23-year-old man from Tripura, Yeachin Miah, has been arrested by Chennai police for allegedly forcing his Bangladeshi girlfriend into sex work after luring her to India under the pretext of helping her find employment. The woman, who had entered India using forged documents, was also arrested under the Foreigners Act.

Investigations revealed that Yeachin Miah, a resident of Mainama village in Tripura, helped his girlfriend cross into India amid recent civil unrest in Bangladesh, reported TNIE. He arranged for forged documents, enabling her to travel to India. After staying in Tripura for around ten days, the couple moved to Chennai, where Miah, with the assistance of his friends, arranged for accommodation in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) colony in Velachery. Prostitution Racket Busted in Chennai: Woman Forces Daughter’s Schoolmates Into Sex Work, Arrested Along With Six Others.

Unaware of her boyfriend's intentions, the woman was initially coerced into the sex trade. After an altercation with Miah, she managed to escape the apartment and approached the Velachery Police Station. Authorities have launched a search for two of Miah's associates, Kapil and Rumki, who are believed to be involved in the prostitution racket. Meanwhile, the woman's illegal entry into India was confirmed, and she was taken into custody under the Foreigners Act.

Both Miah and his girlfriend were produced before a magistrate and have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues into the broader prostitution network.
