TOI reported that the girl, who regularly experienced severe menstrual cramps, took multiple pills in an attempt to relieve intense abdominal pain. Soon after ingesting the medication, she began vomiting, prompting her parents to rush her to the primary health centre (PHC) in Omandhur. However, upon returning, she lost consciousness, leading her parents to admit her to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) for further treatment. Despite medical intervention, the girl succumbed to complications from the overdose on Monday. A postmortem examination has been conducted. The police stated that the excessive dosage of the medication led to fatal health complications. A case of unnatural death has been registered based on a complaint from the girl's father. The girl was reportedly awaiting counselling for admission into an engineering program.
In a related incident, a 34-year-old mother of four from Trichy also died after consuming unsupervised abortion pills on August 24. The woman, who was pregnant with her fifth child, took the pills without consulting a doctor. She was rushed to MGMGH after complications arose but could not be saved. This incident highlights the dangers of unsupervised medication use, especially among vulnerable populations.
