Mumbai, July 24: Another tree fall-related fatal incident was reported in Mumbai on Tuesday. According to the information received from Mumbai's civic body disaster cell, a tree fell on a moving auto rickshaw in Mulund at around 2:18 pm today. Apart from the driver, two passengers were inside the auto at the time of the accident. While one has been declared dead by the doctors, the other two are under observation and are said to be out of danger.

Similar fatal incidents involving trees have been reported in the recent past. As per reports, Parshuram Victor Bastin, a 74-year-old man was declared dead after a tree fell on him at M G Road near Metro cinema, Marine drive. There have been rising instances of trees fall since the onset of monsoon. A 50-year-old man died after a branch came crashing down at Andheri last week. Similarly, a 13-year-old girl, Drushti Mungra, died after a coconut tree fell on her in Dahisar. In June another 90-year-old woman died after a tree fell on her near Banganga in Walkeshwar.

As per reports, in the first month of monsoon, more than 950 tree fall incidents have been reported. BMC trims the branches before the monsoon begins as a precautionary measure against such incidents, despite which, incidents of tree fall continue to be reported. Last year, a Doordarshan anchor Kanchan Nath lost her life after a coconut tree fell upon her. Soon after the incident, the BMC drew a lot of flak for civic negligence. New reports also claimed that BMC was notified about the tree in Mulund and the danger it posed, but they did nothing to avoid the fatal mishap.
