New Delhi, September 24: A major train mishap was averted on Tuesday after a motorman saw a major fracture in the rail tracks near Kanpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh. Reports inform that passengers travelling in two express trains- the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express and Magadh Express had a narrow escape after the driver of the second train noticed a 14-inch long rail fracture in the tracks and applied emergency brakes.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the driver of the Islampur-Delhi Magadh Express noticed a major 14-inch fracture in the railway tracks. The alertness of the driver saved lives of many passengers as applied the emergency brakes and immediately informed the main control room in Tundla. As soon as the incident was reported, a team of experts was rushed to the spot and the fracture was temporarily fixed. The report further informs that the authorities immediately stopped the Magadh express and several other trains as a precautionary measure. In the wake of the incident, Delhi bound Rajdhani trains and other long distance trains were stranded at different stations.

In August, four coaches of a train derailed at Kanpur Central railway station in Uttar Pradesh. As the train was moving at a low pace, there was no major accident. According to reports, the accident took place while changing the tracks.
