New Delhi, December 30: 'Train 18', the first locomotive-free train of India, completed yet another successful trial run by breaching the 180 km/hr mark. With this speed, it has officially become the fastest train in India, surpassing the Shatabdi Express. During the test-trial, the Indian Railways also checked upon the train's stability.

What reflects the stable performance of the train even at the record-high speed, is the fact that the water-bottles kept onboard remained stable throughout the journey. 10 Things to Know About The First Engine-Less Train in India.

"The stability of water bottles at this speed is testament to the quality of workmanship and design of our engineers," said the statement issued by the government.

Train 18 has been built at a cost Rs 100 crore. The project was completed in 18 months by Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). The first-trial run was held on October 29, which was flagged off by Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani.

After Train 18's success, the Railways is reportedly working on another project - Train 20 - which is intended to replace the fleet of Rajdhani trains.
