Chennai, August 14: A 36-year-old woman named Rajeshwari, who was allegedly set ablaze by her boyfriend's wife in Tamil Nadu, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, August 13. The deceased woman was reportedly set on fire by her boyfriend's wife on August 9 at a vegetable market in Pularambakkam in Tiruvallur district. After the woman's death, the attempt to murder case was changed to murder.
The accused woman, identified as Parvathy, has been booked on charges of killing Rajeshwari, reports the Times of India. The police have also booked six relatives of Parvathy for allegedly threatening Rajeshwari. The alleged incident occurred on Friday when Parvathy came to Rajeshwari’s stall with a bottle of petrol. After pouring the petrol on Rajeshwari, the accused woman tried to torch her. When Parvathy poured the bottle's content on Rajeswari, a spark from an oil lamp fell on the victim's saree and spread over her body. Seeing Parvathy ablaze, a few vendors rushed to her aid and took her to a hospital. Police officials said that the victim suffered 80 per cent burns. Later, she was shifted to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital in Chennai, where she breathed her last on August 13.
During the investigation, cops learned that Rajeshwari had been in a relationship for nearly a decade with Suresh, Parvathy's husband. Parvathy and Suresh have two children. Police officials also found that Suresh, who operated a vegetable stall, set up one for Rajeshwari himself. They also discovered that Parvathy had learned about their affair and even warned the two. A few months ago, the accused woman had confronted Rajeshwari and even asked her to stay away from the market. The victim stayed away for six months but came back when she was reinstated by Suresh. Meanwhile, the police have arrested Parvathy and her six relatives and lodged them in jail. Her husband, Suresh, has also been detained by the police in connection with the matter.
