Tinsukia Killings: 24-Hour Bandh Called by Bengali Groups;Trinamool Congress to Send Delegation to Assam
The Trinamool Congress will send a delegation to Assam for protesting against the killings in Assam in which five people were shot dead by United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent ULFA (I) terrorists in Tinsukia district on November 1.
Kolkata, November 3: The Trinamool Congress will send a delegation to Assam in the wake of killings in Assam in which five people were shot dead by United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent ULFA (I) terrorists in Tinsukia district on November 1. The party will finalise the members of the delegation today, reported News18. Several Bengali organisations have also called for a 24-hour bandh on Saturday in protest against the killings.
Meanwhile, the TMC, Left Front and Congress slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state. The opposition parties claimed that the killings were the outcome of National Register Citizens (NRC) in the state. Yesterday, TMC MP and National president of the party Abhishek Banerjee led the protest rally against the Tinsukia killings. Derek’O’Berek, TMC MP also participated in the rally.
On November 1, five persons were shot dead by suspected ULFA(I) terrorists in Assam's Tinsukia district. Two persons were also injured in the attack. According to reports, six people were sitting at a shop in the area when ULFA(I) militants came in camouflage attire. The armed men took the victims to the banks of Brahmaputra river where they were told to sit in line and shot at. Four of the deceased were identified as Shyamlal Biswas, Ananta Biswas, Abhinash Biswas and Subal Biswas. All the victims were reportedly Bengali.
