Tinsukia, November 4: The Trinamool Congress Delegation led by Member of Parliament Derek’O’Beren met the families of the five people killed by United Liberation Front of Assam - Independent (ULFA-I) terrorists in Assam’s Tinsukia on November 1. The delegation also gave Rs 1 lakh each as compensation to the bereaved families. Yesterday, several Bengali organisations had called for a 24-hour bandh in protest against the killings. The TMC along with the Congress and left parties slammed the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government of the state for the tragic incident.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief while condemning the killings claimed that it was the outcome of National Register Citizens (NRC) in the state. A day after the Tinsukia massacre, TMC MP and National president of the party Abhishek Banerjee led the protest rally against the killings in which derek’O’Beren also participated. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal warned stern action against those involved in the massacre.

On November 1, five persons were shot dead by suspected ULFA(I) terrorists in Assam's Tinsukia district. Two persons were also injured in the attack. The ULFA(I) terrorists came in camouflage attire and took the victims to the banks of Brahmaputra river where they were asked to sit in line, and shot them. All the victims were reportedly Bengali.
