Tinsukia Killings: TMC Delegation Led By Derek'O'Beren Reaches Assam's Dibrugarh to Meet Families of Victims
The four-member Trinamool Congress delegation led by Member of Parliament Derek O Brien has arrived in Assam’s Dibrugarh. The delegation is now on its way to Tinsukia to meet the families of the victims who were killed by United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent (ULFA-I).
Tinsukia, November 4: The four-member Trinamool Congress delegation led by Member of Parliament Derek O Brien has arrived in Assam’s Dibrugarh. The delegation is now on its way to Tinsukia to meet the families of the victims who were killed by United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent (ULFA-I) on November 1. Yesterday, several Bengali organisations had called for a 24-hour bandh in protest against the killings. The TMC along with the Congress and left parties slammed the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government of the state for the tragic incident.
The TMC claimed that the killings were the outcome of National Register Citizens (NRC) in the state. On November 2, TMC MP and National president of the party Abhishek Banerjee led the protest rally against the Tinsukia killings. Derek’O’Berek, TMC MP also participated in the rally. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal warned stern action against those involved in the massacre.
On November 1, five persons were shot dead by suspected ULFA(I) terrorists in Assam's Tinsukia district. Two persons were also injured in the attack. As per reports, six people were sitting at a shop in the area when ULFA(I) terrorists came in camouflage attire and took the victims to the banks of Brahmaputra river where they were asked to sit in line, and shot them. Four of the deceased were identified as Shyamlal Biswas, Ananta Biswas, Abhinash Biswas and Subal Biswas. All the victims were reportedly Bengali.
