According to a Business Standard report, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Gujarat are planning to ban the apps. The governments of Punjab and Karnataka are likely to follow suit. The report mentions that Tik Tok is being used for spreading hate messages and child pornography.

While the parent company Chinese tech major Bytedance has earlier stated that it is monitoring the app to prevent such incidents and cooperating with the authorities, the state governments, however, believe that banning Tik Tok is a much better idea.

In April this year, the controversial TikTok app had been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. Android, Windows and Apple users were not able to download the Chinese mobile application, which was deemed illegal by the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court upheld the HC's decision, forcing the government to impose a ban.
