TikTok and Helo Are Anti-National, Says RSS Affiliate SJM; Urges PM Narendra Modi to Ban These Apps
A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, July 14, to ban video-sharing app TikTok and Helo, claiming that these applications have become a hub for the anti-national content.
New Delhi, July 14: A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, July 14, to ban video-sharing app TikTok and Helo, claiming that these applications have become a hub for the anti-national content. In a letter to Prime Minister, SJM co-convener Ashwani Mahajan highlighted the concerns over two apps, which he alleged were exposing Indian youth to anti-national content. "In recent weeks, TikTok has become a hub for anti-national content that is being shared extensively on the application and which can rupture the fabric of our society," Mahajan said. Delhi Man Snatches iPhone to Make Good Quality TikTok Videos.
On Helo, SJM co-convener claimed that the app paid Rs 7 crore for over 11,000 morphed political ads. "Some of these ads were using morphed pictures of senior Indian political leaders. Functionaries of the BJP themselves wrote to the EC during the last general election raising these concerns," he said.
Mahajan also said that the country did not have any regulations to monitor applications on Play Store and App Store in iPhones. He has requested the government to bring such laws in order to protect national security and privacy of citizens.
Last week, the Mumbai police cyber cell registered a complaint against a group of TikTok users for circulating a video related to mob lynching of Tabrez Ansari. The complaint was against a TikTok group "Team 07" members - Faisal Shaikh aka Faisu, Hasnain Khan, Faiz Baloch, Adnan Shaikh, and Sadhan Faroqui. Later, TikTok suspended the account and removed the clip.
