Delhi, August 29: According to the police, Deepak Sharma, an assistant superintendent at Tihar Jail, has filed a complaint stating that a woman and her husband conned him out of Rs 50 lakh in the guise of investing in a health product business. Sharma, who is well known for his love of bodybuilding, claims that professional wrestlers Raunak Gulia and her husband Ankit Gulia defrauded him of Rs 50 lakh.
In his complaint, Sharma claimed that he had met Raunak Gulia, a national and state wrestling champion, on the Discovery Channel's 'India's Ultimate Warrior' reality show. Raunak had told Sharma that the couple was seeking investors and that her wrestler husband Ankit is a well-known health product entrepreneur. The Gulias' assurances of enormous profits convinced Sharma to invest Rs 50 lakh in their company. Though the couple later refused to return the money. The West Vinod Nagar-based Tihar jailer then complained to the Madhu Vihar police station in East Delhi, where a case of cheating was subsequently opened, according to the police. On social media, Sharma and Raunak Gulia each have a sizable fan base. The Tihar Jail administrator, a fitness lover and influencer is sometimes compared to Salman Khan's character in the cop-action series Dabangg, and Gulia has close to 4.5 lakh Instagram followers.
