Tihar Jail Dy Superintendent Removed by Delhi Chief Secretary for Alleged 'Misdemeanour'

New Delhi, January 15: Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev on Tuesday ordered a compulsory retirement of Deputy Superintendent of Tihar Jail Jagdish Singh for his alleged "misdemeanour(a non-indictable offence)". Singh was removed from his duty by imposing a penalty of compulsory retirement after he was found guilty of releasing a prisoner without a proper order by a court and assisting illegal meeting of a prisoner with an outsider, reported news agency ANI. Homeless in Delhi Seek Warmth in Prison as Winter Gets Colder, Commit Petty Crimes to Land in Tihar Jail.

Delhi government's vigilance department in a statement said, "Jagdish Singh, Deputy Superintendent, Central Jail Tihar, was found guilty of assisting illegal meeting of a prisoner with an outsider, and also in another case, he released a prisoner without a proper release order of the competent court." Delhi Cabinet Approves Rs 120 Crore Proposal for CCTVs in Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini Jails to Check Allegations of VIP Treatment.

Earlier, on January 12, the third Battalion of Delhi Armed Police reported that they had recovered banned items including cash, knives, blades, mobile phones and drugs last year from prisoners in Tihar jail. According to Times of India report, the Delhi Armed Police had recovered Rs 76,810 from jail inmates in the security checks. Police also recovered over 1,000 pouches of tobacco and nearly 100 cell phones from the prisoners of Tihar during security checks.
