New Delhi, July 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced that the tiger population in the nation has risen by 700. The news was revealed at a function when PM Modi inaugurated the All India Tiger Estimation 2018 report on International Tiger Day. This comes as a huge sigh of relief because the decreasing numbers of tigers have been a major concern in India over the last few years. According to an ANI tweet, PM Modi said, "Results of the just declared tiger census would make every Indian happy. 9 years ago, it was decided that the target of doubling the tiger population will be 2022. However, we have completed the task 4 years early."

PM Modi further highlighted that the government is committed to saving the big cat. The Tiger Estimation exercise is believed to be the world’s largest wildlife survey effort in terms of coverage, the intensity of sampling and quantum of camera trapping.
The All India Tiger Estimation takes place every four years.
