Thane, August 3: A wall collapsed in Thane after heavy rains lashed the city on Saturday. The wall collapse, which took place in Vasant Leela Complex on Ghodbunder road, was captured in a CCTV camera. The video footage shows a compound wall collapsing apparently due to pressure on water flooding the road in the area. Thane city witnessed heavy downpour disrupting normal life due to waterlogging and flooding in some parts.
Due to the heavy rainfall overnight in Thane, roads, nullahs and even housing societies were flooded. The gushing water swept away vehicles in some areas. Buses and autos were not plying as roads were waterlogged. Thane Municipal Corporation, in view of torrential downpour, declared a holiday in all government-run schools in the city. The civic body also issued an advisory asking people to stay indoors.

One person was electrocuted in Thane. "Eighteen-year-old Santosh Gole, a resident of Dharmaveer Nagar in Thane, was electrocuted when he tried to remove the plug of the refrigerator at his house," chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Santosh Kadam said.
In another incident, one person was suffered serious injuries after the roof of a bakery located near Mumbra police station in Zainy Colony, caved in, officials said, adding that he was admitted to a private hospital. Incessant downpour continued in neighbouring Palghar district as well.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected in the Konkan region, including Mumbai, and parts of central and western Maharashtra in the next two days.
