Mumbai, October 15: The Maharashtra police recently booked a man for allegedly keeping a lemon under the car of the assistant municipal commissioner of Ulhasnagar. The accused, who works as a peon with the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, was on Friday, October 13, booked under the Anti Superstition and Black Magic Act. The victim has been identified as Manish Hiware, who is the assistant municipal commissioner of the civic body.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the incident took place at the civic body's Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station. Hiware had parked his car at the EV charging station before meeting a civic official. A peon who saw a lemon under Hiware's car told him about the same when the assistant municipal commissioner was about to leave. When he reached the parking spot, Hiware found a lemon which was pressed under the wheels of his car. Following this, he scanned the CCTV footage of the parking area and suspected a peon of keeping the lemon under his car. The suspect was identified as Dhananjay Gaikwad.
Speaking about the incident, Hiware said, "I took permission from Commissioner Aziz Shaikh to lodge a case against the peon as I feared for my life after spotting the lemon." Post this, Hiware lodged a complaint against the suspect under the Anti-Black Magic Act. So far, the police have not made any arrests. "We have issued a notice to the accused to appear at the police station," an official said. Meanwhile, a court in Thane district convicted a man and his two sisters for the death of his wife, who was harassed and set ablaze in the city. The three accused were found guilty of charges under section 304 (I) (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
