Thane Shocker: Man Allegedly Assaults Woman Ticket Clerk, Beats Her Till She Falls Unconscious Over Dispute Regarding Change at Kalyan Railway Station; Arrested
An enraged Shaikh allegedly entered the ticket counter and beat Patil till she fell unconscious. At the time of the alleged assault, Patil's colleagues were outside. When they returned, they immediately alerted Pandhari Kande, senior police inspector of the Kalyan Railway Police Station.
Mumbai, October 19: In a shocking incident in Mumbai's neighbouring Thane, a man allegedly attacked a woman ticket clerk over a dispute over change after purchasing a ticket at Kalyan railway station. The alleged incident occurred on Friday, October 18. After the incident, the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) detained the accused passenger as other staff members closed the booking counter for the alleged assault.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ansar Sheikh (35). The incident took place on Friday morning when Sheikh approached the woman ticket clerk with INR 20 to purchase an INR 15 ticket to Byculla, reports HT. Clerk Roshni Patil, who was the only ticket clerk at the counter, requested Shaikh provide the exact fare or wait until she got a change from other passengers to issue him a ticket. This led to a dispute which soon escalated into a verbal argument. An enraged Shaikh allegedly entered the ticket counter and beat Patil till she fell unconscious. At the time of the alleged assault, Patil's colleagues were outside. When they returned, they immediately alerted Pandhari Kande, senior police inspector of the Kalyan Railway Police Station.
Kande and his team rushed to the spot, searched the Kalyan station, and nabbed Shaikh. After the incident, ticket clerks at Kalyan railway station staged a protest and closed the booking counter for an hour as they demanded security in the ticket counter area. The ticket clerks also requested the government prioritize their request for enhanced safety measures. It is also alleged that Patil's gold jewellery was also stolen during the assault. It is reported that she sustained serious injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the railway hospital.
