Mumbai, July 11: After tragic incidents were reported at different waterfalls in and around the city amid heavy rains, the Thane district collector has invoked Section 144 (unlawful assembly) at all high-risk waterfalls in Thane region as a precautionary measure. The waterfall and other tourist places where Section 144 has been invoked include Malshej Ghat, Yeoor hills, Kalwa, Mumbra bypass, Godbunder, Uttan Lake, Tiwala Lake, Ganesh Ghat Chowpatty, Bhiwandi's Ganeshpuri lake, Shahapur's Bhatsa dam, Mauli Fort, and other famous spots visited by people once monsoon starts.
With Section 144 having been invoked, a group of people will not be allowed at these places. Besides this, the tourists will also not be allowed to click selfies, drink alcohol, take their two-wheelers or four-wheelers. If they are found doing so, they will be detained by police and action will be taken against them for breaching the law. The move aims at avoiding any untoward mishap. The prohibition will remain in place till July 31, as per the orders issued by the district collector.
