Thane, December 26: In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old patient was molested by a cleaner in the intensive care units (ICU) ward at a hospital in Kalwa. According to reports, the 39-year-old cleaner was arrested for assaulting a seizure patient in a Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)-run Kalwa hospital. According to a report by TOI, the man tied the girl’s hand to the bed and molested her. The accused, identified as Dinesh Koli, a resident of Kopri, has been arrested in connection with the case. The report further informs that the incident took place around 12.30 am on December 23. According to the TOI report, the victim’s father informed that a female patient on the adjacent bed in the ICU ward saved the girl from getting raped. The victim hails from Kalyan and was admitted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital for treatment since December 16. Her father also informed that since saline was being administered, the victim’s mother had tied her hand to the bed and the accused tied her other hand too. The report informs that the female patient on the adjacent bed thought there was something fishy going on and then questioned the cleaner’s presence near the victim. When he snubbed her, she started screaming for help. As soon as the hospital staff heard the screams, the nurse as well as other staff rushed to the victim and thrashed the accused.

Investigation officer Ganesh Mugle said that the cleaner has been remanded to judicial custody after a day’s police custody. The TOI report further informs that the victim’s father was requested by the hospital authorities to not report the incident to media. As per details by hospital medical superintendent Rajiv Korde, the contractor has been told to dismiss the cleaner and a case has been lodged by the hospital management.
