Thane, September 15: A 55-year old man was killed and a woman injured when a three-storied dilapidated building crashed near Dombivali town in Maharashtra's Thane on Friday evening, officials said. The tragedy was reported from Avre village around 6 p.m. when a portion of the Adinarayan Bhavan collapsed, officials said.
The building had around 40 tenements and most were evacuated on Thursday when the building started rumbling and developed cracks. The structure was already in the list of dangerous buildings and flagged for action, said the officials, but more than half-dozen families continued to live there. The deceased has been identified as Suraj Lodha, and the injured woman has been rushed to a nearby hospital. Police, fire brigade, disaster management teams and other are engaged in a rescue operation and to locate if any other victims are trapped under the rubble.
